Tech Geekout: Google Glass

Tech Geekout: Google Glass

Today's Geekout is going to be about Google Glass and the fact that it is now available with prescription lenses. This isn't going to be a fanboy rant about how great Google Glass is (I haven't played with one nor would I at $1,500 USD) but I want to talk about the concepts that Google Glass raises and what it can open up.

I am very excited about the prospect of Google Glass and what it may lead to in the future. Who hasn't had the thought of just being able to look ahead and have the directions laid out in front of you like a Sci-Fi film. This is what Google Glass can do and is leading us towards. Google has started the whole discussion about the future of wearable technology and the new technologies that have come about since then.

I would totally use these in everyday life. I can see myself wearing these (if they weren't so expensive) and now that they have been released with prescription lenses WOOHOO. This will revolutionize how we do things in the new world of augmented reality. It already has, with medical procedures being broadcast to Doctors in training in the states and all the new apps that are currently being developed specifically for Glass. Working in IT I can see amazing uses for this for training purposes along with general use of use for phone users (basically disband the need for Bluetooth connection to car). having the phone notifications ready for you right above your eye will make life easier and as voice recognition comes along the easier it will be to control.

I am not going to lie I am a fan of Google and what they stand for, but the fact that they had this vision and then implemented it rather than just talking about it says they are serious. They don't think this will be popular straight away, it is technology for 5-10 years int he future. I could not agree more, people aren't ready for it yet, but in 5 years I think it will be just right and they will have had 5 years of getting it ready. This is what Google is, Google is about the future and planning for the future, Google Glass mixed with their already highly connected environment is what the future will be in 10-15 years and they are planning for it NOW.

Thanks for reading and let me know what you think, have your say.
