Tech Geekout: Google's sale of Motorola

Tech Geekout: Google's sale of Motorola

First off WHAT THE! Where did this come from. Google is selling off Motorola to LENOVO for approx. $2.9 BILLION. So this means that they will lose around $7 BILLION after they bought Motorola for approx $12 Billion.

I do not understand why they are doing this. The Moto X and Moto G (First phones from Motorola after Google bought them) where pretty good phones and they were on the cheaper side which is great. They took this money LOSING machine and basically started from scratch with it and showed that they had started to turn it around. WHY would they then sell it for SO MUCH less than they bought it for.

It asks the question why did they bother buying Motorola? It also squashes rumors that Google were going to kill there Nexus program (because they had Motorola). I think that one the Moto X and Moto G weren't as successful as they would have hoped and they pride themselves on being open and really any hardware manufacturer being able to use Android. With having Motorola it could have started to look like they wanted to become like Apple and control from start to finish.

Personally I think they should have kept it and let kept the Moto phones separate kept Nexus as the Flagship Android phones and just let Motorola create phones using the almost stock android. It would have kept everyone happy and made for a more open market with lots of options.
